59 | Creating Your Own Resources: With Mim Adams

November 9, 2018

If you are interested in creating your own teaching resources – This casual chit-chat is for you. My dearest friend and faithful colleague, Mim Adams dropped into the FULL VOICE office and we talked about our adventures researching, creating, publishing and marketing the FULL VOICE resources. It has been a LONG journey (almost 20 years) but we have enjoyed the challenges all along the way. We hope to inspire those of you who are interested in developing your own educational materials.

About the products and links mentioned in the podcast

Music notation programs
We have used several different music notation programs throughout this extensive creative process. Not going to lie, they take some time to get the hang of but they are a necessity if you are creating music resources. Mim has always used Finale and I now use Musescore (free!) But there is a new program coming out that Mim is very excited to explore called Dorico

Desktop Publishing Programs:
In the early days we had cheap used laptops and we did our resources using Word (Yes, we know, don’t judge!) We have been using (and loving) Page Plus (Serif) However, this program is no longer being updated and will soon be replaced with Affinity Publisher. Here are other Top recommended programs to design your teaching resources.

Adobe Indesign Microsoft Publisher, Quarkxpress

Print on Demand Publishing
There are many options for those of you who are looking to self-publish. We use Kindle Direct Publishing for our resources, but a simple google search will offer many other companies that specialize in print on demand options in your country.

DIY Websites
We use (and LOVE) Squarespace for our online website. We also use ecwid for our Canada and Australia e commerce stores. Here are other options that are also highly rated. Wix, Weebly, Shopify,
